How to tell if you have this key

  • The Intelligent Key contains a removable mechanical key; Nissan's procedure starts by removing it.
  • Nissan's manual lists the Jackknife key separately as "if so equipped".

Replacement steps (summarised from the manual)

  1. Remove the mechanical key from the Intelligent Key.
  2. Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the slit at the corner and twist to separate the upper part from the lower part. Place a cloth over the screwdriver to protect the casing.
  3. Replace the battery. Do not touch the internal circuit or terminals, and hold the battery by its edges.
  4. Make sure the + side faces the bottom of the lower part.
  5. Close the lid securely, then operate the buttons to check the key works.

How to tell if you have this key

  • A jackknife key has a key blade that folds into the remote.
  • Nissan lists it as "if so equipped", separate from the Intelligent Key.

Replacement steps (summarised from the manual)

  1. Hold the jackknife key button side up.
  2. Insert a small screwdriver into the slit at the corner and twist it to separate the upper part from the lower part. Use a cloth to protect the casing.
  3. Remove the old battery and fit the new one. Do not touch the internal circuit or terminals, and hold the battery by its edges.
  4. Close the lid securely.

Key programming: Not stated in the official source.

Nissan shows the jackknife key battery orientation only in an illustration, so we do not restate it. Note which way the old battery faces before removing it.

Battery safety

  • Keep coin batteries away from children. A swallowed coin cell can cause severe internal burns within hours. If you think a battery has been swallowed or placed in the body, get medical help immediately.
  • If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the key and keep it away from children.
  • Hold the new battery by its edges and avoid touching the circuit board or contacts.
  • Replace only with the same type, and recycle the old battery according to local rules.

If the key still doesn't work

  • Check the battery orientation and that the cover is fully closed.
  • Make sure the new battery is the exact code listed above — similar sizes are not interchangeable.
  • If the buttons still do not work, contact a franchised dealer. We do not cover key programming or security systems.
